Burn the Witches: Scottish Witch Hunts Lecture
Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at 6pm at the GF Public Library
The Scottish Witch Hunts of the 1500s-1700s saw the accusations, tortures, and many deaths of some 6,000-8,000 people, 80% of which were women. This Master’s level lecture presents the witch hunts against the context of Scotland during the heated Protestant Reformation, the fall of magic with the rise of academia during the Enlightenment, and the impact of religious extremists during times of national instability. Participants will learn the motivations and methodologies used to hunt and torture the women. Costumes are welcome / encouraged.
Please note: This lecture covers sexual and violent discourse — audience discretion is advised.
