FREE Workshop: Be the Storyteller of Your World, Create a Visual Voice with Art

The workshop will utilize the history, concepts, and discussions of traditional Native art; ledger art and winter counts as the foundation while participants begin to create a space for their own personal visual stories.
An introduction of various art concepts; color theory, materials, symbolism, composition as well as several exercises, will connect music with art and discussion on how outside and interpersonal influences connect with our artistic space.
As traditional native art mythologies and concepts will be their outline to the project’s direction, each participant will be encouraged to connect with their own heritage, culture and personal stories.
The project’s outcome will be a visual representation of all the discussions, elements and intent presented to the group.

Monte Yellow Bird Sr. or better known in the art world as BLACK PINTO HORSE is a Arikara/Hidatsa from the Three Affiliated Tribes and grew up in White Shield North Dakota. Award winning artist Black Pinto Horse, artistically has refined his heritage into a focal point, incorporating the tradition, spiritual and oral traditions through a contemporary form of visual art expression and education.
Discovered art at an early age and growing up on the reservation in a large family of limited means led to his attending the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe NM at 16 years of age, then on to studio Art/History Ed at NDSU, then finally graduating from Minot State University with a bachelors in studio art. What began as a way to replace idle hands indoors as a child turned into way to find heartfelt success and a lifelong journey to share culture, traditional teaching, worldwide travel through artistic expression.
The inspiration for his diverse array of mediums, visual narratives and cultural subject matter is influenced from past and present experiences with his culture, mother’s faith and teachings, father’s dedication and tenacity as well as all the people that share their worlds with black pinto horse the artist.
