Great Falls Safety Town
Safety Town is a mini village with a purpose.
Safety Town was established in 1937 by a police officer and a kindergarten teacher after a child was hit by a car and killed walking to school. It started with traffic safety and has expanded to other areas.
Our program is offered through the partnership of Great Falls Public Schools, and the National Safety Town Center.
It is a fun and educational program designed to introduce a variety of safety concepts to children Entering Kindergarten in the Fall of 2024.
The program will help children develop positive attitudes and values toward safety, which will help them throughout their lifetime. Safety topics include traffic, gun, fire, stranger, water, and more! They will practice being safe pedestrians and motorists in the mini village. This combined with songs, art projects, and videos, provides a fun learning experience.
In addition, there will be Community Helpers to promote safety that will include the Fire and Police Departments, BSBL-School Bus, BNSF Railroad, Red Cross, “Torgy” the Tractor and Emergency Medical Personnel.
The main objective for Safety Town is to create an environment for children to practice what they have learned through constructive play.
The parent’s job is to reinforce what the children learn daily.
